Greg Nanney, M.D., is happy to be back at Heartland Cancer Center for a number of reasons – some personal and some professional.
Dr. Nanney is a medical oncologist who recently returned to Great Bend after a three-year absence.
“I am thrilled to be seeing patients again in central Kansas,” said Dr. Nanney, who recently moved back to Kansas from Springfield, Mo. “The patients and the friendships I have developed over the years in Great Bend mean a lot to me. The personalities and the work ethic of the people here are just special.
“In addition,” he continued, “I am in a group of exceptional oncologists. We provide complete cancer care under one roof.”
The group he was referring to is Central Care Cancer Center, which is based in Salina. It includes four radiation oncologists and seven medical oncologists.
Two of these professionals work side-by-side with Dr. Nanney at Heartland Cancer Center. They are Dr. Claudia Perez-Tamayo, radiation oncologist, and Dr. Mark Fesen, medical oncologist.
Central Care Cancer Center works in collaboration with Heartland, which is owned by St. Rose Ambulatory & Surgery Center.
“Our philosophy is being a family,” Dr. Nanney said. “It is wonderful for me to be a part of this family of caring and professional health-care providers. We are offering state-of-the-art quality care in rural Kansas.
“Heartland Cancer Center is truly a gem for this community,” he elaborated. “To have radiation and chemotherapy in one place is great for the patients. They can come here and get all the services they need and not have to drive 100 or more miles.”
Dr. Nanney specializes in cancer treatment and disorders of the blood. He began seeing new and former patients here a few weeks ago on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
“My former patients have been so nice about me being back,” Dr. Nanney said. “I even received a card from one today.”
Dr. Nanney also noted he is pleased to renew his association with the Midwest Cancer Alliance. “It is a privilege to re-join that affiliation,” he said, noting he previously was associated with MCA through Hutchinson Regional Hospital. “MCA focuses on meeting many patient needs, while providing education and other resources to help our patients.”
St. Rose is an MCA member.
The oncologist had been practicing at the St. John Clinic in Springfield, Mo., since he left here in September 2010. In addition to Great Bend, Central Care Cancer Center’s Kansas locations are Iola, Emporia, Newton, Wichita, Winfield, Garden City and Salina. It also has facilities in Springfield and Bolivar, both in Missouri. Dr. Nanney resides in Newton.
