Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! Happy National Library Card Sign-up Month! To celebrate we will be replacing lost or damaged library cards all month long. So, if you lost your card or it barely works anymore, come on down to the library for a free replacement!

Thursday, Sept. 14, at 5:30 p.m. our Teen Manga and Anime Club will be meeting to watch and discuss “One Piece.” Then we will have a video game tournament with fabulous prizes for our winners. Then at 6 p.m., adults get ready to get crafty with our latest adult craft - Hobbit Doors. That’s right! We will be making our own Hobbit door wreaths to go on our much larger human doors or walls. These are awesome and you don’t even need to be a “Hobbit” or “Lord of the Rings” fan to appreciate these whimsical decorations!

On Friday we have a very special teen event planned. Baristas from Great Bend’s new Starbucks will be here for a teen-exclusive coffee tasting! Learn how to pair pastries with your favorite caffeinated beverage and enjoy a drink from their cold bar setup. For those with allergies, do keep in mind some of the products they will be bringing may contain nuts and dairy.

Speaking of teens, your last day to register for our fall TeenBookCrate is Sunday, the 17th. For those who don’t know, TeenBookCrate is a book box subscription that is totally free. Teens who sign up will receive a themed reading and activity bundle this September.

Monday is our first Messy Art Monday of the semester. Participants this month will have a chance to make their own Play-Doh!

On Tuesday we will start the day off with Story Time at 10:30 a.m., followed closely by Tech Tuesday at 11 a.m., and last but not least, Open Book Club at 7 p.m. This month we will be discussing the book “Hench.” In a world where superheroes and villains exist, Anna works a boring office job for a villain but when she is fired she decides to turn her power of data analytics on both the heroes and villains of the world to show that what really matters is numbers. She has the power to expose everyone with data! Copies of this book are available at the front desk and through Libby and Hoopla.

On Wednesday, the library will be closing at noon and will remain closed until Monday, the 25th. The entire library staff will be going to a conference to help us learn and grow our library for the better.
