Let’s laugh

These are distressful times, as we all recognize. People are full of anxiety, and uncertainty. So, what can we do about it? We certainly cannot lie down on our backs and surrender. No, we need to live life and not give in to every decree and mandate that takes that quality of life away from us. We must be sensible, and respect health safety, but not fearful.

Here’s my advice. We might do three things; pray, laugh, and love.

Let’s laugh today, shall we? Here’s an piece that’s been circulating on the internet since at least 2010; author unknown.

The Church Ladies are back! Remember them? They type up the church bulletins every week, and have collected some good ones for us to enjoy. These were real, bona fide notices in various Sunday bulletins:

Notice: The Fasting & Prayer Conference will include meals.

A bean supper will be held on Tuesday evening in the church hall. Music will follow.

The Sunday sermon morning: ‘Jesus Walks on the Water. Tonight’s sermon: ‘Searching for Jesus’.

At the evening service tonight, the sermon topic will be ‘What is Hell?’ Come early and listen to our choir practice.

Ladies, don’t forget the rummage sale. It’s a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Bring your husbands.

Don’t let worry kill you off – let the Church help.

Next Thursday there will be try-outs for the choir. They need all the help they can get.

Eight new choir robes are currently needed due to the addition of several new members and to the deterioration of some older ones.

Miss Charlene Mason sang, ‘I Will Not Pass This Way Again’, giving obvious pleasure to the congregation.

This evening at 7 p.m. there will be a hymn singing in the park across from the church. Bring a blanket and come prepared to sin.

The ladies of the church have cast off clothing of every kind. They may be seen in the basement on Friday afternoon.

Irving Benson and Jessie Carter were married on Oct. 24 in the church. So ends a friendship that began in their school days.

For those of you who have children and don’t know it, we have a nursery downstairs.

Weight Watchers will meet at 7 p.m. at the 1st Presbyterian Church. Please use large double doors at the side entrance.

Low Self-Esteem Support Group will meet Thursday at 7 p.m. Please enter using the back door.

And this one just about sums them all up ... The Associate Minister unveiled the church’s new campaign slogan last Sunday: ‘I Upped My Pledge – Up Yours.’

I hope these little ‘faux-pas’ give your hearts a merry boost. In the meantime, pray, laugh, and love. We will talk about the love issue next week, if I remember!
