United States Army Korean War veteran Marion Bahr was awarded a Quilt of Valor from Golden Plains Quilts of Valor on April 27, 2018, at the American Legion Post 180 in Great Bend. Bahr was a Private First Class; he served in Korea and remembers temperatures reaching -40 degrees. The quilt top was made by Valeda Hitschmann and was quilted by Amy Schartz Mellor. Amy Schartz Mellor, group leader of Golden Plains Quilts of Valor, announced that 12 local veterans were awarded Quilts of Valor from Golden Plains Quilts of Valor on Friday, April 27, at the American Legion Post 180 in Great Bend.
