The Barton Community College Theater Department will host open auditions for its upcoming fall production, “Steel Magnolias,” by Robert Harling at 5:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 25 and 26 in the Fine Arts Auditorium.
“Steel Magnolias” focuses on the lives of several women who spend much of their time dishing about the local gossip in a small-town beauty parlor. The hilarity of their exchanges is mixed with an underlying seriousness as the audience learns of the inherent personalities, struggles and strengths of each character.
“Harling has given his women sharp, funny dialogue ... The play builds to a conclusion that is deeply moving.” — NY Daily News.
“... a skillfully crafted, lovingly evoked picture of eccentricity in the small-town South ... Robert Harling is a new voice in the theater and the qualities of ‘Steel Magnolias’ suggest he may be an important one.” — Drama-Logue.
Barton Theater instructor Erin Renard will direct the play and anyone aged 17-40 is encouraged to audition.
Auditions will require a cold reading from the script.
The show will run Sept. 25, 26 and 27 in the Fine Arts Auditorium.
