Barton Community College will host its sixth annual Sidewalk Art Contest May 1 and 2 on the sidewalk outside the Shafer Art Gallery.
The contest is open to all residents of Barton County. Artists wishing to participate can register and pick up their free chalk at the Shafer Gallery between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on either day.  Artists must have their work completed by 4 p.m. Thursday, May 2.
The contest will be judged by Barton art instructors. The pieces can be done by individuals or by several artists on a team. Prizes to be awarded are three $100 gift certificates to the Barton Bookstore. If a team wins, its members will split the award.
Barton Art Instructor Steve Dudek said the annual competition is something he looks forward to.
“It involves people in the whole county, and they’re able to come participate in an artistic endeavor,” he said. “The contest shows the creative side of a lot of different people.”
