Law enforcement officers continue to look for a man who was wanted for suspicion of battery in Great Bend on May 28. On that night, a vehicle was later stopped at 18th and Harrison St. and one of the people in it was the suspect, who fled on foot. The driver, Alecia A. Niefert, of St. John, was arrested on charges of flee and elude and driving without headlights, and was released after posting a $320 surety bond.

The Barton County Sheriff’s Office received a tip shortly after 6 a.m. on Monday that Niefert was driving toward Great Bend on U.S. 281 (or possibly a back road) from K-19, and the suspect was with her again. The vehicle was spotted in Great Bend in the vicinity of Second and Holland around 6:27 a.m., and the battery suspect again fled the scene.

Neifert was arrested and booked into the Barton County Jail on charges of possession of marijuana, obstruction, and aiding a felon. She was released after posting a $10,000 surety bond.
