Blood drive falls short after mishaps

People who attempted to donate blood Monday afternoon at the St. Rose Auditorium were turned away because of computer problems. There were more issues when the water to the building had to be shut off, said Corry Herrman, Great Bend blood drive chair. “They can’t run without water,” she said.

The goal was to collect 91 units of blood for the American Red Cross but only 55 units were collected, Herrman said.

Potential donors who had scheduled appointments online received an email apologizing for the “IT difficulties” at Monday’s Community Blood Drive.

The next chance to donate blood in Great Bend will be Tuesday, Nov. 23, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the American Legion, 1011 Kansas Ave.
