A Tuesday afternoon collision between a passenger car and a motorcycle at the intersection of NE 30 Road and U.S. 281 north of Great Bend resulted in “serious injuries” for the motorcycle operator, Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir said.

According to Bellendir, the initial investigation indicates an eastbound car, making a left turn onto to U.S. 281, turned into the path of a motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the front of the passenger car at highway speed.

The crash, which occurred around 3 p.m., forced the closing of the junction and traffic was rerouted for some time.

The incident remains under investigation.
