Chicagos famed Second City comes to Hays

Chicago’s legendary comedy theater, “The Second City,” will appear at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 5, at the Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center. The performance, sponsored by Fort Hays State University’s University Activities Board, will feature some of the best sketches, songs and improvisations from Second City’s 45-plus year history.
Founded in Chicago in 1959, The Second City has become the premier training ground for the comedy world’s best and brightest. Its alumni list includes Mike Nichols, Elaine May, Alan Arkin, Joan Rivers, Robert Klein, Peter Boyle, Harold Ramis, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, George Wendt, Martin Short, John Candy, Bonnie Hunt, Tim Meadows, Chris Farley, Mike Myers, Tina Fey, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Horatio Sans, Ryan Stiles and countless others.
The Second City will provide audiences the chance to see comedy stars in the making, and the opportunity to see hilarious satire and cutting edge improvisation. No topic or subject matter is off limits to The Second City. If your parents asked you not to speak about it at the dinner table, chances are it will be made fun of in an evening with The Second City.
Tickets are $5 for the public and free for FHSU students with a Tiger ID Card. Tickets can be purchased at the Student Service Center, located in the Memorial Union. Phone orders may also be made with a credit card by calling 785-628-5306. Ticket sales began Monday, Sept. 12.
