At the request of Housing Opportunities Inc., the Great Bend City Council Monday night OKed the annexation of the Cambridge Development property. HOI is developing a three-phase housing project on the site which is currently outside the city limits.
HOI is the sole owner of approximately 24 acres adjacent to the southern boundary of the city, at the end of Grant Street and behind Walmart, City Attorney Allen Glendenning said. So, in this case no hearing is required and the council simply had to approve the action.
It has been working with the Planning Commission to rezone the property to a planned unit development, he said. A hearing before the Planning Commission is set for Nov. 28 and that is when HOI will seek to have the land platted for their development.
HOI requested to connect the anticipated development into the city’s sanitary sewer. On Oct. 3, the governing body approved the connection, contingent upon HOI requesting annexation.
HOI is proposing to develop the 24 acres of land, known as the Brynwood Addition. This development will consist of three separate phases to incorporate multiple types of housing totalling 64 units.
The 28-unit low-income Cambridge Park will be Phase 1. It is a project combining supportive services provided by Sunflower Diversified Services to allow the project to cater to their clientele.
HOI projects an approximate eight-10-year timeframe for full build out for all three phases.
