Compost site usage issues addressed
city of great bend logo

The City of Great Bend would like to advise the public as to the proper usage of the compost site. The compost site is permitted by KDHE, and as such the permit allows the city to only take certain materials.

The materials accepted are trees, tree limbs, grasses, and leaves. As of late though, there have been materials outside of the permit.

The city cannot accept construction material, any processed lumber or yard timbers, tires, or anything else that is outside of permitted use. KDHE does make inspections of the site and can fine the city for violations outside permitted purpose.

If one sees someone violating the permit, or has any questions or concerns, they can contact Street Superintendent James Giles at 620-793-4150.
