Deer-vehicle collision sends two to Clara Barton Hospital

Two people were taken to Clara Barton Hospital Saturday evening after a deer hit by a car was thrown into the windshield of an oncoming pickup, 4 miles west and 10 miles north of Hoisington on U.S. 281.
Kansas Highway Patrol reports the accident occurred at 8:40 p.m. on Oct. 22.
A northbound 1997 Toyota Avalon driven by Jonathan A. Mikail, 38, of Kansas City, Mo., struck a deer that was in the roadway. Mikail was not injured, but the deer was thrown into the southbound lanes and struck the windshield of at 2008 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Arthur R. Budig, 49, of Russell. Arthur Budig and passenger Stephanie A. Budig, 43, were taken to the hospital in Hoisington with undetermined injuries. Two other passengers in the Silverado were not injured.
Everyone in both vehicles was wearing a seat belt. Both vehicles were removed to tow lots.

With groundwork going on at the future site of the Innovation Center on Farmer’s Plaza off of 10th St., Great Bend Economic Development Executive Director Sara Arnberger updated Great Bend Chamber members on several of the organization’s projects Thursday during a Chamber Coffee.
