ELLSWORTH – At approximately 5:12 p.m. Sunday, a corrections officer at the Ellsworth Correctional Facility was battered by an inmate, according to  Adam Pfannenstiel, Kansas Department of Corrections communications director. 

The staff member was taken to the Ellsworth County Medical Center for treatment and was later released, Phannenstiel said. The inmate has been taken into custody and placed in the Administrative Segregation unit pending investigation.

Due to the ongoing investigation no other information is available at this time, he said.
