DODGE CITY — Congressman Tim Huelskamp announced that entries are now being accepted for the 2011 Congressional Arts Competition. All high school students in the First Congressional District are encouraged to participate. The winning artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

"Every day I walk through the Cannon Tunnel of the Capitol Complex and see students’ artwork from across the country adorning the walls," Huelskamp said. "It is a wonderful program, and I look forward to receiving new submissions from Kansas students."

The new Jerry Thomas Gallery and Collection at The El Quartelejo Museum in Scott City will host the 2011 competition.

This year’s competition is divided into seven categories: paintings, drawings, collage, prints, mixed media, computer generated art and photography. All submissions must be received between Tuesday, April 5, and Friday, April 8, during the hours of 1-5 p.m. at the Jerry Thomas Gallery at 902 West 5th Street in Scott City.

Awards will be given in each category and will be announced by Huelskamp at a reception at 3 p.m. on April 17 at the Jerry Thomas Gallery & Collection, at 902 W. 5th Street in Scott City, KS.
