For those wanting to avoid adding pounds during the holidays, the Great Bend Recreation Commission is forming its late fall exercise classes.
GBRC Coordinator Garet Fitzpatrick said exercise classes are offered throughout most of the year, along with walking programs and use of equipment at the Cavanaugh Wellness Center.
“A lot of people make New Year’s resolutions,” Fitzpatrick said. The following classes start next week and continue through January at the Great Bend Activity Center, 2715 18th St. People will also be allowed to join in January. Pre-registration is required. Enroll at the Recreation Commission office located at 1214 Stone St. For more information, call 793-3755 ext. 2.
Talaya Schwartz and Dixie Divis teach noon Body Shaping on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 12:10-12:50 p.m. During this class, participants will do some strength building exercises that burn fat, tone and firm specific body areas. Fitzpatrick said this class is a good choice for many people who feel they can’t fit an exercise class into their busy schedule.
“It’s just over the lunch hour,” he said. Because they focus on toning, participants won’t need to shower after this class so they can get back to work on time. For weight loss, he suggests adding one of the high-impact evening classes.
Laurie McCurry offers H.E.A.T., or high energy aerobic training exercise classes, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and ZUMBA class on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
McCurry also teaches yoga classes to quiet the mind and body while increasing flexibility and improving balance and strength, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Dee Krier teaches Tai Chi on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. This class consists of a series of slow, gentle, flowing body movements that emphasize concentration and relaxation.
