The Kansas Highway patrol responded to a fatal crash at 10:45 p.m. Saturday in Russell County, one mile east of the East U.S. 281 and K-18 Junction.
According to reports, a 2016 Ford F-350 driven by Gerald Thouvenelle, 67, of Russell, was westbound on K-18 and for unknown reasons the vehicle went into the south ditch and collided with the guard rail. The vehicle became airborne and landed in a creek bed and collided with a concrete wall. It came to rest facing northwest on its wheels. Thouvenelle was not wearing his seat belt. He was taken to Russell Regional Hospital and later died from his injuries.
