A rural Barton County home suffered extensive damage in a house fire Wednesday morning, Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir said.

Bellendir said the occupants had managed to exit the residence without injury. The Hoisington fire department arrived at the scene and brought the fire under control.

The garage area of the home suffered substantial fire damage and the remaining portion of the residence received smoke and water damage. Investigation indicated the probable cause of the fire was an air compressor that had overheated setting fire to other flammable material in the area.
