In 2016, the Central Kansas Catbackers created a scholarship program for local students that plan to attend Kansas State University as freshmen in the fall. The committee awards five $1,000 scholarships each year. Several outstanding applications were received and selecting five recipients was a difficult challenge.

The following five recipients of the 2020-2021 Central Kansas Catbacker Scholarship are:

• Chandler Blackwell, graduate of Hoisington High School. Chandler is the son of Anita and James Blackwell. Chandler plans to pursue a degree in Chemical Engineering at Kansas State.

• Delaney Rugan, graduate of Central Plains High School. Delaney is the daughter of Richard and Janel Rugan. Delaney plans to pursue a degree in Biology with the hopes of becoming a Pediatrician.

• Jenna Mauler, graduate of Great Bend High School. Jenna is the daughter of Curt and Paula Mauler. Jenna plans to pursue a degree in Engineering and a minor in Leadership Studies.

• Jerred Bieberle, graduate of Central Plains High School. Jerred is the son of Audria and Jerry Bieberle. Jerred plans to pursue a degree in Wildlife and Outdoor Enterprise Management.

• Madison Grandclair, graduate of Hoisington High School. Madison is the daughter of Matthew Grandclair. Madison plans to attend Kansas State Polytechnic and pursue a degree in social work and substance abuse.
