Former Lyons man sentenced for child pornography
Hoisington City 4-25-23
Hoisington City Council members discuss vacancies on the council at Monday’s meeting.

WICHITA — A former Lyons man was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in federal prison for uploading child pornography to his Yahoo Messenger account, U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister said.

Kenneth Herd, 55, pleaded guilty to one count of transporting child pornography. In his plea, he admitted that Yahoo reported him to Cyber Tip Report (https://report.cybertip.org/). Investigators used Herd’s IP address to track the account to him at an address in Lyons. Herd now lives in Chandler, Okla.

McAllister commended the KBI and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Hart for their work on the case.

According to an earlier report from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, the crimes occurred in Lyons but Herd was living in Russell on February 14, 2019, when special agents from the KBI arrested him for his involvement with child pornography. He was arrested at his place of employment in Hays, following a Jan. 30, 2019, federal grand jury indictment. After his arrest, Herd was transported to Wichita where he was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail.
