A forecast of inclement weather has moved tonight’s Great Bend High School Panther Jazz Spring Concert indoors. Originally it was planned to be outdoors at the bandshell in Jack Kilby Square, but it is now set for 7 p.m. in the main gym at GBHS.

All are welcome to attend, said GBHS Band Director Grant Mathews. Enter through the main entrance to the high school, and come to the gym. There will be open seating in the upper level of the gym, with handicap seating on the ground level.

School officials ask that family groups social distance, and everyone wear a mask.

The band will perform music from Thad Jones, Count Basie, Celia Cruz, Maynard Ferguson, Stevie Wonder and Gordwin Goodwin. The Varsity Saxophone Quintet will also be featured.

May concert

The Panther Bands will have their spring concert extravaganza on Wednesday, May 12, at 7 p.m. This concert is scheduled to take place at the bandshell in Jack Kilby Square. Audience members may use the benches for seating or bring their own chairs to enjoy the evening. If there is inclement weather, the concert will again move to the high school gym.

The bands will perform music from John Williams, Leroy Anderson, the musical Hamilton and John Philip Sousa. “We will have some unique music as well,” Mathews said. “You will hear a student soloist on the ballad ‘Stardust,’ a piece by Samuel Hazo with poetry narration, and pieces by female composers Tania Leon and Alex

Shapiro. Shapiro’s piece is played with an electronic music track. The concert will also include student-led project pieces featuring music from Randall Standridge, and from the series ‘The Mandalorian.’ It should be a fun, musical evening, with an outdoor town band feel. We would love to see you there!”
