On Oct. 19, the Great Bend High School Debate team competed in the Buhler Invitational Debate tournament. They had five teams contribute to an overall placing of 3rd in sweepstakes and two medals with a 1st place finish in the varsity division.
In the varsity division, Michael Gieck and Kameko Schultz placed 1st out of 34 teams with a 5-0 win/loss record. Schultz stated “It was a goal for my partner and I to have a perfect record and take first place, and I am proud to say we accomplished that at this tournament.” Kane Schumacher and Jordan Stoulil also competed in varsity contributing to the overall success of the team.
In the novice division, Trae Black and Malia Clark placed 9th with 19 speaks, barely missing a medal but contributing as well. Also in novice Makinna Dikes and Aaron Miller placed 10th following behind with only 22 speaks. Kris Gieck and Jesus Sandoval also competed, contributing to the success. Gieck said “The tournament was great I didn’t expect such tough competition. I’m glad that I took part in this experience.” Overall the team did very well and plan to compete in upcoming tournaments.
GBHS Debate competes in Buhler
