Gifts for Panther sign, Park playground on BOE agenda

Accepting two gifts of $5,000 is on the agenda for the Great Bend USD 428 Board of Education meeting, set for 5 p.m. Monday at the District Education Center, 201 S. Patton Road.
The Great Bend High School Panther Booster Club wishes to contribute to the purchase of an electronic sign for GBHS, and the staff at Park Elementary School has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Midwest Energy Community Fund, to help buy playground equipment for the school. Other gifts and a grant application are also on the agenda, along with a request to approve the GBHS Band and Orchestra’s trip to Branson, Mo., in 2016.
Another agenda item is the required public notification of the Title VI B and ECH budget, which covers salaries for licensed special education staff salaries. The 2015-2016 application amounts to $956,325 for Title VI B pass-through funds ($10,669 higher than the prior year), and $39,261 for ECH ($7 higher than the prior year). For the next 30 days the budget application will be available for public review at the Barton County Cooperative of Special Education.
A 15-minute executive session for discussion of real property is also on the agenda, with no action anticipated following the executive session.
