A Great Bend man died Wednesday after being crushed by a trailer, Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir said.

The Barton County Sheriff’s Office was called to assist Great Bend Fire Department Emergency Medical Services personnel at about 1:40 p.m. Wednesday at Black Hawk Sandblasting and Coating, 288 SW Second Road A.

According to the sheriff, Scott Stein, 32, was painting a trailer when it fell of the stands it was on, trapping him. He was transported in critical condition to University of Kansas Health Systems Great Bend Campus by EMS, but later died of his injuries.

Barton County Coroner Dr. Ed Jones will perform an autopsy this morning to determine the cause of death, Bellendir said. The case remains under investigation.
