With construction on its next house under way and an upcoming talent show fundraiser in the works, Habitat for Humanity of Barton County is hosting a mixer event to thank current and prospective volunteers. The event will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at the non-profit organization’s construction site, 1906 Hubbard in Great Bend.

"Our goal in hosting this mixer is to thank our existing volunteers and give prospective volunteers the opportunity to get involved," said Habitat board member Barry Bowers. "We are looking to expand our board of directors, as well as our list of construction helpers."

People of all ages and interests can help with the project, regardless of the size of their time commitment. Volunteer coordinator Kelly Hart said volunteers are needed for all sorts of jobs. "We need people to help with construction, making lunches for other volunteers, clean-up, painting, yard work, fundraising, etc. Experience and physical ability are not prerequisites for volunteering."

During the mixer, current board members will be present to give tours of the job site, answer questions about the non-profit organization, and mingle with prospective volunteers. The mixer is free and refreshments will be served, but there is no obligation to volunteer for those who attend. In addition, a door prize drawing will be held, and two chamber gift certificates will be given away after the event. Winners do not have to be present at the time of the drawing.
