The City of Great Bend announced Monday during the City Council meeting that after nearly a year of planning and preparation, a Community Coordinator has been hired. Christina Hayes, a Claflin native, will assume her position with the City of Great Bend in the coming weeks.
Hayes graduated from Claflin High School before attending Fort Hays State University, where she earned a Bachelors Degree in Public Relations and a Masters Degree in Communication Studies. For the past six years, Christina has worked for the NorthWest Kansas Regional Prevention Center (RPC) and Smoky Hill Foundation. There, her focus was on the reduction of substance abuse and other negative youth behaviors by working with community coalitions to solve local problems.
In her new position as the Great Bend Community Coordinator, Hayes’ responsibilities will include:
• Promoting and marketing the community to a culturally and economically diverse audience, to enrich the lives of all residents of the Great Bend residents, and increase regional and local visitors to the area.
• Coordinating special events, art shows, and other cultural activities
• Attending city-wide events and promotions and promoting event growth and continuity
• Remaining highly visible in the community
“This will be an exciting and rewarding challenge,” Hayes says. “I look forward to working with the City of Great Bend to promote and grow the economy through the coordination and development of projects, events, and festivals.”
She currently lives in her hometown Claflin with her husband Richard and her 17-month-old son Richie. Her hobbies include spending time with family, walking, reading, cooking, watching reality TV and being outside.
