Hearing set for involuntary manslaughter case

The preliminary hearing has been scheduled for William Baker, the Great Bend man charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter. The hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. on July 29 at the Barton County Courthouse.
Baker has been charged in connection with the Aug. 16, 2014, accident that killed Reno County couple Shawn and Danielle Schellenger. They were riding a motorcycle on 10th Street in Great Bend that was hit by a trailer that broke free from a vehicle Baker was driving. He has also been charged with unlawfully towing a trailer without having an adequate safety chain; operating a vehicle without the load being securely fastened; and two traffic infractions for not having the trailer properly equipped with stop lights and turn signals.
Baker remains free on his own recognizance.
