Like many things in 2020, Veterans Day had a different look at Hoisington High School. Serving veterans lunch after a patriotic program has become a tradition many guests look forward to. However, the in-person program wasn’t possible this year due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The HHS Student Leadership class still wanted to honor veterans and decided to still provide a meal. Invitations and menus were sent out for pre-orders, and veterans had a choice of the usual chili or chicken noodle soup topped off with a cinnamon roll and brownie. Many meals were picked up from the school while others were delivered to local veterans’ homes.

The students hope to get back to their traditional program and in-person lunch next year.

If you are a veteran and have never received a mailed invitation to the Hoisington High School Veterans Day Program, please email Marcia Williams at mwilliams@usd431.net or London Reif at lreif@usd431.net to be added to the mailing list. “Thank you to all veterans and active duty personnel for your service!” sponsors said.
