The National Weather Service office reported a high wind warning is in effect for portions of central Kansas on Friday.
Strong northwest winds at 30 to 35 mph with gusts up to around 50 mph are expected until 7 p.m. for portions of central, south-central, southwest and west-central Kansas, including the cities of Great Bend and Russell. For some areas, including Larned, the warning is in effect until 4 p.m.
This will result in a very high fire danger and outdoor burning should be avoided.
In some areas, minor structural damage and isolated power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. Areas of blowing dust will limit visibility at times. Motorists of high-profile vehicles should use extreme caution.
Looking ahead, frost is possible Monday morning and again on Tuesday morning across much of the area.
