Hoisington Debate competes at State

HOISINGTON — At 3-2-1A State Debate at Fort Scott recently, the Hoisington High School team of Garrett Dykes and Payton Dykes earned a 3-3 record and placed eleventh out of 26 teams.

Garrett and Payton defeated teams from Clay Center, Ellinwood, and Sacred Heart (Salina). They lost to teams from Silver Lake, Sterling, and Halstead.

Coach Marion Oborny named Garrett and Payton as the Cardinal Outstanding Debaters for the year. Miquala Purscell, Victoria Luttrell, and Tyler Reif were named as the Outstanding Novice Debaters. Garrett, Payton, Miquala, Victoria, and Tyler each earned a debate letter.

In earlier action in the teams’ in class tournament, Garrett placed first and Payton placed second. Miquala Purscell and Samantha Colson tied for third place.
