With wheat harvest underway, it’s time to take a break and have some fun, said Patty Horton of Hoisington Main Street. Saturday afternoon, starting at 2 p.m., HMS will host Hoisington Fun Day. Sponsors include the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #23, First Kansas Bank, Cates Carquest, Manweiler Chevrolet, A & F Enterprises, City of Hoisington EMS, Police and Fire Dept., State Farm Insurance - Kathy Burt, Roadway Inn & Suites, and The Lodge Micro Motel.
“It’s a great opportunity not only to celebrate the season with residents of Hoisington, but a chance to showcase the city to neighboring towns in a fun, relaxed way,” she said.
Early on, the Hoisington Police, Fire and EMS will meet and greet the public at Lebert Park on Main Street, just north of First Kansas Bank. The Fraternal Order of Police are sponsoring a bike safety rodeo. Officers will also conduct drug dog demonstrations.
At 4 p.m., the Business Olympics starts, featuring six teams from local businesses. Games will include egg and spoon races, tricycle races, and some surprises which will be keep secret until the day of competition.
There will be free hotdogs and surprise give-aways for the kids.
Then at 5 p.m., the party moves to Bicentennial Park’s north ball field for a dance with music provided by Ronnie and the Rockets. The 5-piece rock band has found an appreciative audience of street-dance goers all over western Kansas, and this is a return visit to Hoisington. A beer garden will be available for a nominal charge, and water and soft-drinks will be available too.
