The Kiwanis Club will place flags throughout Great Bend on Memorial Day. Club President Frankie Pelster said members will be out at dawn, placing flags on the Broadway islands and in front of homes that have signed up for this new service. The flags will be retired at sunset the same day.
The Kiwanis Flag Project is a new fundraiser where the club will supply and place a flag and pole at homes or other locations on five patriotic holidays – Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and Veterans Day.
“We have 81 flags paid for, so we will put out about 100 this first time with the Broadway islands,” said project chairman Barry Bowers. Crews will be out to place flags around 7 a.m. and will pick them up around 6 p.m.
Tuesday, May 19, is the last day to sign up for this service in time for Memorial Day. The cost for one year is a $40 donation to the Kiwanis Club of Great Bend. Send email to GBKiwanisFlags@gmail.com. Find the club on Facebook @greatbendkiwanis.
