Quilting Bees meet

LARNED — Quilting Bees President Colleen Wolf opened the meeting at the Presbyterian Church on July 7 by thanking those members who have made a special effort to provide programs and demonstrations both at the regular meetings and at the recent Quilting Celebration.
Correspondence was noted from Pat Hassman, Roberta Southam, and Deb Likens. It was further noted that several prayer quilts have also been made and delivered. Thanks also goes to those women who involve themselves in this ministry. Donna Hanken recently donated fabric for prayer quilts.
Discussion was held in regard to a fabric exchange project beginning with the month of August. First to volunteer included Mary Weber, Virginia Bauer, and Merlene Baird.
The annual Pawnee County Fair will accept entries for open class on Wednesday, July 22 from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. both at the Larned Community Center and at the fairgrounds to the north of the center. Members were reminded that entries in the textile divisions must be made within the last three years, not shown before, and must be labeled. Carol Crockett demonstrated the art of recycling T-shirts into other useful articles and displayed several purses handsomely decorated. Mary Weber demonstrated how to make a light box using LED lights and a plastic box.
Show and Tell included Alice Clapsaddle and Karen Hadley showing their projects for the “Fright Cat” wallhanging and other projects for the fair. The next regular meeting will be at the church on July 21 with sewing beginning at 5 p.m. and the meeting to convene at 7 p.m.
