Larned VFW Auxiliary
holds monthly meeting
LARNED — The Larned Ladies VFW Auxiliary held their regular monthly meeting on the first Monday of the month.
Rita Kurtz called the meeting to order and Chaplain Anne Graner lead the opening ceremonies.
Newest member Rachel Bird was welcomed to the meeting.
Members report donating meals to veterans and delivering cakes and cookies to nursing homes. A monetary donation was made to the Paralyzed Veterans.
The spring convention will be held in Liberal on April 12.
Plans were made for the next card party, which will be held March 23 with the doors opening at 6 p.m. and a light meal served at 6:30 p.m.
If a person is interested in joining the VFW Auxiliary, questions can be directed to Rita Kurtz, Karen Gilkey, Barbara Penka, Marcheta Jacobson, or any other member.
Quilting Bees meet
LARNED — In the absence of the president Diann Morell chaired the March 17 guild at the Presbyterian Church. Discussion was held in regard to the annual, free Quilting Celebration.
The group decided to hold the event held in conjunction with Santa Fe Trail Days starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 13. For additional information call the church at 285-6033.
The Jordaan Library quilting group finished the snowman candle mat and several other items. The quilt top that individuals in the community made for Jordaan Library is now at the quilters. The pumpkin seed quilt block was displayed by Sue Southam, Diann Morell and Alice Clapsaddle. Diane Schultz distributed the May quilt block directions and encouraged those who are making the mystery quilt to continue working. Another workday is scheduled for Saturday, April 18.
Diann Morell demonstrated the fold and sew method block. Show and Tell participants were Becky Obermiller, Garfield, sample block; Diane Schultz, Great Bend, finished quilt; Gayle Fanshier, Larned, mystery quilt top and another quilt top made from the scraps; Merlene Baird, Larned, mystery quilt top ready for the quilter.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday, April 7 at the church.
VFW Auxiliary sets
card party Monday
LARNED — The Larned Ladies VFW Auxiliary is hosting their next card party on Monday, March 23.
Ten-point pitch is played and this event is open to anyone who likes to play cards. You do not need a partner, just show up! Doors open at 6 p.m. and a meal is served at 6:30 p.m. Cards are played after the meal.
There is a suggested donation of $6 at the door. There are prizes for high and low scores. Proceeds will be donated to a charitable cause.
