Quilting Bees meet

LARNED — Diann Morell chaired the May 3 meeting of the Quilting Bees thanking everyone for participating in the Chamber coffee hour on April 28 featuring the Prayer Quilt Ministry. To date about 600 quilts have been made.
A thank you was given by Becky Obermiller in behalf of her mother, Mary Hunter for the gift of a prayer quilt.
Thank you also to Merlene Baird for writing a grant for the Prayer Quilt Ministry with the Presbytery of Southern Kansas who have awarded the grant.
Virginia Bauer announced that an article on the ministry and the guild will be included in the Chamber newsletter and also will appear on the blog.
Announcements included a reminder to work on the silent auction items for the Quilter’s Celebration on June 4 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Larned’s Presbyterian Church, 8th & Morris.
A workday will be held on May 7 to complete the favors for those who can participate.
In addition, the guild was reminded that the fat quarter project for the Pawnee County Fair on July 27 should be completed by July 5. Assignments for presentations were discussed. For further information about the annual free Quilting Celebration, call the church at 620-285-6033.
Members were given the next step in the procedure of the friendship block currently being constructed. A shorten version of the flower stamping project was given by Merlene Baird.
Show and Tell participants were Diann Morell, angel panel quilt in tans and browns; Sue Southam, modern quilt top of bright florals cut on the diagonal; Opal Macy, No. 12 of flower garden block; Alice Clapsaddle, table topper in purples for the silent auction and a lined red apron using fat quarter for pockets and ties for display at the fair; Merlene Baird, barn and house blocks for a quilt in the Hannibal, Mo. quilt guild project.

City of Burdett to
feature local events

BURDETT — Burdett City Clerk Linda Schadel plans to do a mass mailing for June, which will include all water bill recipients as well as those in the 67523 zip code
