Quilting Bees meet

LARNED — Prior to the guild meeting on Tuesday, June 7, the annual Quilter’s Celebration was held on Saturday, June 4 in the fellowship hall of the First Presbyterian Church of Larned for about 50 participants.
Those attending enjoyed new tips on quilting patterns, ideas and a trunk showing by Susan Gray from Radium. Numerous door prizes were given away as well as each participant received a handmade pin cushion.
A new feature, a silent auction, generated interest among the participants as well as a small fund raiser for the guild. Discussion was held for future fundraisers. Diann Morell thanked all those who worked hard on the celebration.
In addition, thank you notes were read from Ronnell Kenyon and from the Wet/Dry Routes Chapter for the memorial to David Clapsaddle. Sandra Donavon, a former member, was welcomed as a guest.
Ann Hicks announced that at the first meeting in July, an explanation of a Christmas project will be given as well as a Christmas in July event will be celebrated.
It was noted that Cindy Perez will demonstrate aprons from shirts at a future guild meeting as well as Joyce Burnham will demonstrate her projects. The guild will be attending the Wichita Quilt Show and participants should gather prior to 8 a.m. on that Friday.
Show and Tell participants were Opal Macy, friendship block and a folded purse; Sue Schuster, 2 ½ in strip quilt top with the strips she won at the last meeting (way to go Sue); Mary Weber, 1+2 quilt in sherbet colors and a donation of 10 inch squares for the guild; Ann Hicks, various rulers and stencils donated to the guild.
