The Great Bend Police Department has released more information about a Wednesday accident in which Thomas Curran, 52, of Great Bend, fell under a semi-trailer. Police were dispatched to the alley behind Office Products Incorporated, 1204 Main, at 1:40 p.m. in reference to a male being run over by a semi.

Curran had been standing on the sidewalk on the south side of OPI watching a 1999 Freightliner tractor-trailer back into the alley behind the business. Curran apparently slipped on the ice, falling into the alleyway behind the backing semi. Driver Richard Trimmell did not see him fall, but a witness who was driving by was able to get his attention to stop the semi before Curran was seriously injured. The back tires on the trailer did run over Curran’s left foot before coming to a stop.

He was taken to Great Bend Regional Hospital, where he was treated and released.

The Kansas Highway Patrol assisted in the investigation.
