Marshall sworn in as U.S. Senator

Washington, D.C.  — On Sunday, former U.S. Congressman Dr. Roger Marshall was sworn in as a member of the U.S. Senate by Vice President Mike Pence, and Tracy Mann took his oath to fill Marshall’s seat as the First District representative. 

Following the ceremony, Sen. Marshall issued this statement:

“There are many people to thank, but I want to start by thanking the great senators who held this seat before me as well as the people of Kansas who placed their confidence, their faith, and their trust in me to represent them in the U.S. Senate. It’s a great honor, and a greater responsibility as this Senate seat belongs to the people of Kansas. While we face many challenges ahead as a nation, I will never stop fighting for our Kansas way of life.”

Marshall is a a physician, father, grandfather, and husband. As a fifth-generation farm kid growing up in Butler County, he became the first in his family to attend college. After graduating from Butler County Community College, he received his bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University and received his medical doctorate from the University of Kansas.

Marshall served in the Army Reserves for seven years and practiced medicine in Great Bend for more than 25 years. As an OB/GYN. He and his wife, Laina, have been married for 36 years and are the parents of four children, and have two grandchildren. 

After taking his oath of office, Mann issued these remarks:

“I want to start by thanking the great people of the First District of Kansas. I will always advocate for agriculture and our conservative Kansas values. While we face many challenges as a nation, I am excited to get to work and bring Kansas common sense to DC.”

Mann, of Salina, was appointed to serve as the 50th Kansas lieutenant governor under Jeff Collyer from 2018-2019 after Sam Brownback’s resignation led to Collyer ascension to the governor’s position.

He is a fifth generation Kansan who was born and raised on his family farm near Quinter, where he was involved in athletics and FFA. He attended K-State where he studied Agricultural Economics and was elected Student Body president. After college, Mann worked in commercial real estate.
