A woman who is wanted for questioning for burglaries in Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska was arrested Sunday morning in Barton County, Sheriff Brian Bellendir announced.
Leticia Chacon, 24, of Dodge City, was reportedly in possession of several IDs and other property that was seized from a vehicle she was driving. She remained in custody Monday at the Barton County Jail.
Sgt. Doze and Deputy Sheriff Skeen from the Barton County Sheriff’s Office had both observed the vehicle in various locations in Barton County, and while on routine patrol Sunday morning they saw it pull into Lang Diesel, located at 15 SE 90 Ave. in rural Ellinwood, Bellendir said. That was around 4:40 a.m., and the business was closed, so they contacted the driver.
Bellendir said Chacon  gave false information as to her identity but was ultimately identified. Ford County officials then confirmed she had an outstanding warrant. She was booked in the Barton County Jail for a felony theft warrant with a bond of $30,000. She was also charged with obstruction of official duty by the deputies; that bond is $5,000.
The investigation was continuing on Monday. The Dodge City Police Department reported that the license tag on the vehicle was stolen, and a Colorado man was contacted because some of the property found inside was his. Bellendir said the case may also be connected to one or more burglaries under investigation in Great Bend.
