ELLINWOOD —The Ellinwood High School Forensics Team competed at the KSHSAA 2A State Forensics Championships held at Bishop Carroll High School in Wichita on Saturday, May 3. Competing with a team of only four students and a total of seven entries, EHS placed 6th out of 35 schools.  
After enduring three preliminary and one semifinal round of competition, five of Ellinwood’s entries advanced to Finals. In order to determine who would be crowned state champion in each individual event, in the final round, the top six performers in each category of competition complete in front of a panel of three judges. The three markings from this round are then combined with their other scores from throughout the day to determine state rankings.
The final results for Ellinwood were as following: Duet Acting-Tamika Arndt and Hannah Billinger: 5th Place, Humorous Solo Acting-Shiani Hughes, 5th Place, Serious Solo Acting-Shiani Hughes 3rd Place, Original Oration-Rachel Schloctermeier: 2nd Place, and a State Champion level performance in Informative Speaking from senior Rachel Scholctermeier.
Also competing this weekend at the Kansas State Forensics Festival, which is an event that showcases strong student performers who are not participating the Championships, was Mikey Hughes. She performed at Wichita East High School, teaching her audience about the history of nursery rhymes.
The students are coached by Vance Stegman and Angela Petersen.
