LARNED — The Larned Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors have raised donations through its community flag program to sponsor the city’s annual fireworks display at the Community Center.
July 4 events start with a 2-mile walk, 2-mile run, 10K run and triathlon event starting in Schnack Park.
The Fort Larned National Historic Site will sponsor special programs and events throughout July 4.
The Larned Chamber Ambassadors sponsor the annual fireworks display at the Community Center at dusk. Chamber ambassadors solicit participation for any area business or individual which wants to display the U.S. flag on six selected holidays, including July 4. More than 150 participants help raise several thousand dollars for the fireworks display.
“That is what funds the annual fireworks display. The Chamber ambassadors assist in signing up participants and display and take down the U.S. flags,” said Kevin Holt, Chamber ambassador. “They work behind the scenes to make sure everyone is signed up and check to see anyone new wants to sign up. It’s fun to see when some of the city blocks are decked out a certain way.”
The American Legion Riders will kick off July 4 festivities by bringing in the colors. Ethan Banman will sing the National Anthem. Fireworks are scheduled shortly after 9:30 p.m.
“There is plenty of parking and people are encouraged to brink blankets and lawn chairs if they want to,” Holt said. “It’s a great place to see the fireworks show.”
