The Larned American Legion baseball team swept the Buhler Nationals 11-6 and 8-2 to wind down the regular season Wednesday at Moffet Stadium. Several Nationals started for the Class 4A-Division 2 state baseball champions.
Larned will be the site of a Class AA Zone 5-6 Tournament starting Monday. Larned plays Beloit at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Moffet Stadium.
Larned and Beloit qualified for Class AA State Tournament last year.
LARNED 11, BUHLER 6
Landon Erway drove in three runs and Gage Skelton and Isiah Perez each had two RBIs. Relievers Gage Skelton and Isiah Perez combined for three shutout innings.
Buhler’s Ethan White delivered three hits and Jhet Burkhart drove in two runs. Riley Dreher singled home White in the first inning for a 1-0 lead. Erway’s single scored Gage Skelton for a 1-1 tie after one inning.
Jhet Burkhart, Grant Dunning and Dawson Dreher delivered RBIs in a three-run third inning for a 4-1 lead. Larned rallied for three third-iunning runs. Perez’s double scored Gage Skelton and Erway and Perez scored on a passed ball for a 4-4 tie.
Lawson Schultz hit a sacrifice fly and Jhet Burkhart singled home Koby Holmberg in a two-run fourth inning for a 6-4 lead. Larned responded with four runs. Gage Skelton and Erway singled home Alex Barger and Mason Schartz for a 6-6 tie. Skelton and Erway scored on passed balls for an 8-6 lead.
Evan Skelton, Gage Skelton and Erway delivered RBIs in a three-run fifth inning. Barger, S. Martin and Evan Skelton scored runs for an 11-6 lead.
LARNED 8, BUHLER 2
Tyler Stelter drove in four runs with three hits, including a two-run double. Isiah Perez delivered a two-run double and drove in three runs with four hits.
Perez doubled home Gage Skelton and Erway for a 2-0 lead and Stelter singled home Perez for a 3-1 lead after one inning. Perez singled home Evan Skelton and Stelter singled home Gage Skelton for a 5-1 lead after two innings.
Stelter provided insurance with a two-run double that scored Erway and Perez. Jon Herter scored on a sacrifice fly by Mason Schartz for an 8-2 lead.
Lawson Schultz singled home Ethan White twice for Buhler’s runs.
