Photo contest winners announced

Select entries from the Barton County Arts Council’s second annual photography contest are on display now, said Karen Neuforth, executive director.

"I’m pleased with the quality of the entries," Neuforth said. The public is invited to join in congratulating the winners of the second annual "People, Places and Things" photography competition from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Barton County Arts Center, Forest and Main, Great Bend. Refreshments will be served.

Dale Hogg, Managing Editor of the Great Bend Tribune and a frequent photography judge for area county fairs and other events, chose the following pieces:

Division 1 – Youth (8th through 12th grade students): 1st place, "South Dakota" by Kaitlin Adams, Great Bend; 2nd place, "Rooftop Graveyard" by Christine Orr, Larned.

Division 2 – Serious Amateurs (Aged 18 and above): 1st place: "Totems at Monument Valley" by Karole Erikson, Great Bend; 2nd place, "Yellow Tailed Blackbird" by Dr. B. Dan Witt, Hoisington.

First place winners in each division will receive a $50 prize. Second place winners will receive a year’s family membership in the Arts Council.

This program is presented in part by the Kansas Arts Commission, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. Barton County, the City of Great Bend and CPI Qualified Plan Consultants provide additional support for the Arts Council.
