Four Quilts of Valor were presented to area veterans on Sept. 29, 2023. Quilts were made and presented by Golden Plains Quilts of Valor at the American Legion in Great Bend.

Dean Bortz

United States Army veteran Specialist Two Dean Bortz was awarded a Quilt of Valor from Golden Plains Quilts of Valor on September 29, 2023, at the American Legion Post 180 in Great Bend, Kansas.  Bortz served from 1954 to 1957 during the Korean Conflict.  The quilt top was made by Phyllis Manhart; quilting by Amy Schartz Mellor. Roland Nagel

United States Air Force Senior Airman Roland Nagel was awarded a Quilt of Valor from Golden Plains Quilts of Valor on September 29, 2023, at the American Legion Post 180 in Great Bend, Kansas.  Nagel served from 1966 to 1970 during the Vietnam Era. Justin Olson

 United States Marine Corps veteran Sergeant Justin Olson was awarded a Quilt of Valor from Golden Plains Quilts of Valor on September 29, 2023 at the American Legion Post 180 in Great Bend, Kansas. He served from 1988 to 1996, through several conflicts and wars.  The quilt top was made by Phyllis Manhart; quilting by Amy Schartz Mellor. Landon Scheer

United States Air Force veteran Senior Master Sergeant Landon Scheer was awarded a Quilt of Valor from Golden Plains Quilts of Valor on September 29, 2023, at the American Legion Post 180 in Great Bend, Kansas.  Scheer served from 1999 to 2023 through several operations and wars.  The quilt top was made by Margaret Evers; quilting by Amy Schartz Mellor.
