Where kids stand strong is the central theme for “Kingdom Rock” Vacation Bible School at First Christian Church, 5230 Broadway Ave.
The church will hold its annual VBS from 5:15 to 8:05 p.m. starting Sunday, July 28, and continuing through Thursday, Aug. 1.
Each day at “Kingdom Rock,” children ages 3-11 will experience hands-on Bible stories, group games, singing, dancing, live skits and science experiments, all for free.
Each evening begins with a free dinner that parents are invited to attend with their children, followed by a sing and play worship time. From there, children are divided up in age-appropriate groups for crafts, science experiments, interactive Bible stories, games and a visit to Chadder’s Theater.
Each night will close with worship time at 7:45 p.m., which parents may also attend with their children.
Every year the church organizes a service project for the children, and this year participants will help collect school supplies to be given to students and teachers at area elementary schools.
Parents can pick up a list of needed items at registration or pick up a district list from Walmart.  The community is welcome to contribute to the drive by bringing items by the church office through the month of August. Some of the most needed items include notebook paper, crayons, markers and facial tissues.
Children and their families participating in VBS are asked to return during First Christian Church’s 10:20 a.m. service on Sunday, Aug. 4, for an open house and special worship service dedicated to celebrating a wonderful week at Kingdom Rock.
Those participating in VBS will have the chance to share a piece of the week’s experiences with their parents and the church congregation. Families of participants that attend the service will receive a CD of pictures from the week.
Registration is requested by Monday, July 1, to allow for adequate number of supplies. A free T-shirt will be given to those who register before this deadline. Walk-in registration will be accepted, but T-shirts are not guaranteed.
For more information or to register, contact the Rev. Angela DeVore or Jessica Marston at the church by calling 620-793-6603, or visit http://www.firstchristiangb.org/.
