The Barton County Landfill currently has a building on-site that is used for scale operations, office space, employee training and includes a shop. However, it is showing its age, Solid Waste Director Phil Hathcock told the County Commission Monday morning.
He said the building is estimated to be 40 years old and is experiencing maintenance issues to include leaking roof and walls, flooding during heavy rains and electrical problems. So, landfill management requested bids to replace the roof and siding and to install guttering.
The lowest bid came from Bryant Construction for $18,410. This included stripping the old metal, adding four inches of insulation (there was none before), and replacing the covering.
