farm show volunteers needed
A Great Bend Farm, Ranch and Hemp Expo volunteer pulls a trailer through the 2019 show, offering rides to attendees. Key volunteers for a host of jobs are badly needed for this year’s expo the week of April 5-9.

As many as 60 additional volunteers are needed for key positions for the 2021 Great Bend Farm, Ranch and Hemp Expo set for the week of April 5-9 at the Great Bend Expo Complex west of town. The show is that Wednesday through Friday, but help is needed all five days.

“The farm show does put up on the map in agriculture circles. It shows off Great Bend,” said Volunteers in Action Director Linn Hogg, who is charged with wrestling up the needed manpower. “It is also important for us to be known for our volunteers, and their helpfulness and friendliness. It goes a long ways in selling our community.”

Here are the jobs and a little about each:

• Inside display help

Volunteers will help vendors unload and/or load displays. Must be able to lift 30 pounds and walk from outside expo building to vendor’s booth inside with wait.

The majority of the lifting will occur on Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Also looking for a chairperson for this committee.

Up to five volunteers are needed for three shifts each of the five days. Shifts range from three to five hours each, with the chairperson having a longer time commitment.

• Parking

Volunteers will help with parking attendees’ cars and directing attendees to the expo.

Up to seven volunteers are needed for a five-hour shift on Wednesday, three shifts from three to five hours on Thursday, and two four-hour shifts on Friday.

• Zoning

Volunteers will walk a specific area of the expo greeting vendors, handing out materials and making sure everyone is okay.

Up to four volunteers are needed for two three-hour shifts Wednesday and Thursday, and one three-hour shift on Friday.
