The Hoisington Chamber of Commerce announced another activity for Labor Day weekend. This year’s inaugural BBQ Championship is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 3. This year’s event is hosted by the Chamber in memory of the late Ron VanNess and Bubba’s BBQ cookoff. Hoisington Chamber President Brance Barnard said, “We are certainly hoping to build a very fun competitive event.”
The Cardinal sponsor for the event is Wilson State Bank. Barnard explained, “We missed the deadline for the Smithfield sponsored events but hope to get it next year.”
The registration fee is $125 for all four barbecued meat categories (chicken, pork ribs, pork butt and beef brisket). Turn-in boxes will be provided to all teams. The registration deadline is Friday, Aug. 26. Spaces are limited to the first 18 teams on a first-come, first-serve basis. The contest is offering $3,100 in cash payouts with the Grand Champion winning $1,000.
The contest also includes a dessert category open to all who are interested. Any dessert is accepted and there are no rules for the contest. The registration fee is $25 with the payout to be determined by the number of registrations.
Information and details about the contest can be found on Facebook page Hoisington Labor Day BBQ Championship or https://www.hoisingtonkansas.com/bbqchampionship. The Chamber phone number is 620-653-4311.
