ELLSWORTH COUNTY — A pair of two-vehicle crashes over the past two days have claimed the lives of three people, the Kansas Highway Patrol reported.

First, one woman died in Wednesday evening.

At about 5:22 p.m., a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Julie J. Goodman-Hass, 60, of Idalia, Colo., was eastbound on I-70 at mile marker 221. It struck the rear of 2018 Nissan Rogue driven by Amanda G. Finney of Choctaw, Okla., 36. The impact caused both vehicles to leave the roadway.

Goodman-Haas died at the scene and was taken to Parsons Funeral Home in Ellsworth, and her passenger, Christian A. Resides of Colorado, 32, was transported to Salina Regional Health Center in Salina. Finney and her passenger, Matthew Finney of Choctaw, Okla., 37, were transported to Hays Medical Center.

All were wearing safety restraints.

Then, two people died in a Thursday morning collision.

According to the KHP, at about 9:30 a.m., a 2014 Dodge Ram driven by John Merrill Krisel, 60, Council Bluffs, Iowa, was westbound on K-156 just west of Pennsylvania Avenue. It crossed the center line and struck head-on a 2009 Kia Sorento driven by Kathy A. Jimmerson, 60, Dodge City.

Jimmerson and a passenger, Steve W. Jimmerson, 55, Dodge City, died at the scene and were transported to Parsons Funeral Home.
