ELLIS COUNTY — Three Great Bend women were injured Thursday afternoon when their vehicle parked on the shoulder of I-70 one mile east of Walker was struck by a swerving vehicle.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that Mayci L. Craven, 15, Great Bend, was in the back seat of the parked 2014 Nissan Rogue when the vehicle was struck at 2:36 p.m. by the 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup driven by Sergio Torres-Ramirez, 60, Wichita. Torres-Ramirez was wearing a safety restraint at the time of the crash, the KHP reported.
According to the report, the pickup was traveling westbound on I-70 at milepost 174, when it left the roadway into the north ditch. It then struck the Nissan coming back onto the roadway.
Craven and Torres-Ramirez were transported to Hays Medical Center with suspected minor injuries.
Two other Great Bend women were outside the parked vehicle at the time of the crash, the KHP said. Cassandra M. Hatzenbuehler, 37, and Jamie L. Feger, 33, were transported to Hays Medical Center with suspected serious injuries.
